Travel Ducky is dressed for a trek through the jungle (although the ants may bite his feet through his sandals). He is wearing a safari hat, has a red handkerchief around his neck for wiping sweat from his brow, has a little travel pack tucked under his arm and a map in his other hand. Hmm.. perhaps Travel Ducky is actually a she since her toenails are painted pink. Although, of course guys can also paint their toenails too.

Anyway, Travel Ducky has odd eyes too. They are missing the other half of the outlined circle (unless it was supposed to be painted this way). Either way it is a bit odd.

Don’t mail me!

Notice that this duck’s name is Mail Carrier Ducky and not Mailman Ducky or Mailwoman Ducky. Back in my first year of college, in my Grammar class, I wrote an essay arguing for gender neutral language. Since Colin’s Grandpa is a word expert and Colin suggested it, I gave him a copy of my essay to edit. Well, Colin failed to tell me that his Grandpa was also sexist. He was very old fashioned in his thinking and did not believe that a woman could fly a plane because that was a man’s job. His Grandpa was completely outraged by my “ gender-neutral” language position in the essay. He was set on saying “fireman” and was not open to “fire person” or “firewoman.” The man has since passed away and this is just another memory that we have of him and how stuck in the past he was. However, he was up to date with technology and always had the latest and greatest gadgets.

Beer makes me hit the ball further.

Well we didn’t make it out to Ma-me-o Beach this weekend due to the blue-green algae causing a swimming ban at the the lake. However, we travelled back in time to Ft. Edmonton park and saw the “Northern Light” show that was complete with real snow falling from the ceiling.

As promised, for the next week, summer ducks will be the theme. Beer League Ducky bats right-handed and throws with her left. Her pretty blue eyes match her uniform and she often bats her eyes before she hits a homerun.

Don't hunt ducks.

Camo Ducky has shades of grass green, hunter green and army green to camouflage his body. I can’t even type "mou”  without thinking of the They Might be Giants song “m-o-u-s-e” “Mickey mouse playhouse.” That is the only part of the song that I can remember and the part that has been stuck in my head all day. My daughter loves dancing to They Might be Giants. My favourite song is “Ïstanbul.”

Camo Ducky looks like he is smiling. He has tiny blue dot eyes and his base colour is the same as Yellow Glow in the Dark Ducky.

Make time for a bath.

Summer is sweet and special but it is always too short and I am always short of time. This has been the month of barely before midnight - and like tonight - after midnight posts. I am often late, but it just seems that all the chores and tasks line up to the end of the week and end of the night. I am trying to get ready to go to the lake tomorrow and our lunch dishes are still on the table. I usually like to keep a clean house but when you have kids, you need to ignore the cleaning and spend time with them while they are awake. In the summer, you also need to spend time out in the sun while it is shining. Next week, is going to be a week of summer ducks. Tomorrow, I am going to do a photoshoot of summer ducks at the beach.

Hot Tummy Ducky looks like she is made of plastic but she is quite squishy and feels too soft to be plastic. She is really only half a duck since she is flat on the other side. Her tummy stays orange if the bath temperature is perfect, but if it turns red and the words “IT’S TOO HOT!!!” display then add more cold water to baby’s tub. Keep adding water until her tummy turns back to orange.

Can you see the keyhole yet?

I received this ducky key cover flashlight for my birthday. I have a few ducky key covers but they don’t light up. You will notice that I spelled flashlight as one word. Whereas, the actual packaging for this product spells it as two words.

Since the Kikkerland pen and keychain also quack, I was surprised to find that the flashlight does not quack. Quacking would make a great car alarm panic button. There are many ducks out there that really sit on the fence between duck or chick. This is one of those products. Even though the packaging says that Flashlight Key Cap Ducky is in fact a duck. He does look a bit like a chick because of the shape of his head, the hair and his beady eyes. He is large enough to hold my slightly larger house key and since he is rubber it is easy to slide my key in.

Home Decor stores are often a hot bed for rubber duckies. This was the case with JYSK. There are about 6 different ducks from JYSK including a leopard print and zebra print duck. I received all of my JYSK ducks as gifts. JYSK has quite a few trendy items and they some nice desk chairs that are rather affordable as well. I came close to buying a desk chair there but in the end I went with Ikea.

Hot Pink Ducky has two little stands of hair at the top of her head and an upturned tail that you can picture her waving back and forth. She looks like she might be going cross-eyed from staring at her beak.

I love dancing.

I have a thing about dressing matchy matchy. I know that Stacey and Clinton from TLC’s “What not to wear” would completely disagree with me. However, I have branched out a bit and don’t always have my shoes and purse match. Anyway, where I am going with this is that when my daughter was a baby, I enjoyed dressing her in matchy matchy clothes. I loved placing a ducky beside her that matched her outfit (as you can see from this picture).

Polka Ducky is all green with white polka dots. She has a yellow beak and it looks like she has a circle of black eyeliner around her eyes too. On the bottom of her it says “My First Rubber Ducky.”

Shiny flower power.

Burgundy Flower Rubber Ducky is similar to Flirty Flower Rubber Ducky. They are twins. Burgundy Flower Rubber Ducky is the more fun and colourful ducky. Her orange beak is a citrus splash against her shiny plum waxed body. She waxes everyday to keep up her shiny gleam. She rarely goes outside because when the sun reflects off her she blinds people.

Burgundy Flower Rubber Ducky is perched on top of a matching burgundy wine bottle. There are quite a few different coloured cat wine bottles. I have white, black, burgundy and green. There is also pink, orange, blue and red. They make great vases.

I had a great weekend camping, except for the fact that I broke my camera. Therefore, I apologize for the poor quality photo in this post. I was bending down to pick up a toy for my daughter and forgot that I had put the camera in my too tiny capri pocket. The camera slipped out onto the gravel driveway and the display screen cracked. Therefore, I can’t see the screen to turn the flash off or change focus or any of the settings. I can only use the settings that are already programed into the dial. I also can't see the composition of the photo.

We camped with my friends who went to Florida for vacation.They brought me back Astronaut Ducky. You can only see his head and neck which are rather average rubber duck looking. His head is really smooth and it’s a bit odd that he isn’t wearing a helmet into space but maybe he has super powers. His body blends into the black and grey space suit which blends in with his rocket. This cool Astronaut Ducky in a rocket is a must for every rubber ducky collector.

Feel the suction.

Plug Stopper Ducky has a nice metal bath tub chain that connects her to her stopper. I am sure nowadays bath tub chains are a thing of the past. When my brother and I were little, we used to collect the tiny bathtub chain lookalike chains that linked together and held tags on clothes or shoes. We had quite the collection.

Plug Stopper Ducky has bright happy eyes like most rubber ducks. She has three eyelashes on each eye and she has a wide open mouth with a little line on her tongue. Her plug has a little anchor icon on it.

Did you see that moose? 

This duck is quite fitting for today because we are heading off camping for the weekend. DuckWood Ducky was hatched just in time for hunting season. He was born on November 10th. He looks like a piece of wood and has many grooves carved in his body and his beak. He has brown eyes and blends in well for hunting. His red and black plaid fuzzy hat keeps him warm in the fall. He works fulltime as a lumberjack.

He has the word “woodee” carved on his bum. Personally, I would have rather seen an ax tattooo on his bum. This is the second Rubba Duck that has words on his bum. Unfortunately, because I bought him without his box, I don’t have his poem. I was able to find his hatch date online from a picture, but no one has a picture of his poem. If you happen to have this duck and know the poem, please send it to me.

Vibrator Ducky From Las Vegas

Don’t go there.

The official copyrighted name for Vibrator Ducky is “Ï Rub My Duckie Travel Size.” There are several reasons why I decided not to use this name in this post and I won’t go into those details here. My sister-in-law bought me this rubber ducky when she first went to Vegas for her 21st birthday. She leaves today for her third trip to Vegas. Who knows what sort of duckies she will bring back with her this time.

I took my husband to Vegas for his 27th birthday and I rented a Viper for him to drive. We used the valet parking at P.F. Chang’s and we drove to the Outlet mall near the California border. It was a fun trip.

Vibrator Ducky has knowing eyebrows, but he can also keep a secret. His eyebrows are bleached white so you can’t see them unless you look up close. His blue eyes are quite honest and he looks like any other rubber ducky (so he can blend in well), until you pick him up and see the switch on his bottom.

This was one of the first Bath and Body Works rubber duckies that I received. My brother bought in for me way back in 2002 or 2003. He also got me the tub shown in the picture in this post too. Sky Blue Ducky is a great colour and is the typical Bath and Body Works style of rubber ducky. He has an orange beak and the standard 5 eyelashes on each dreamy eye. It would be great if there was a list of all the Bath and Body Works ducks that are available or have been available. This was the closest list that I could find.  Please let me know if you have seen a complete list.

Seeking ponds.

Geocaching is a form of treasure hunting and is an excellent summer activity to do with your kids. All you need is the Internet, a user name and a GPS. We have hidden two geocahes (both duck related of course). We also have two ducky trackables. Trackables are often coins or travel bugs that move from cache to cache with a specific purpose or goal. For example, the goal of our Pond Ducky Travel Bug Ducky is to travel from pond to pond in and around Edmonton. 

Duck Pond Travel Bug Ducky is a quacking key chain ducky that is similar to the pen. She also has the blue led light in her mouth. I had a few repeats of her and also use her for my work keys fob. One day at work, someone came to ask me why my locker was quacking. Sure enough something in my purse was laying on top of my keys and was repeatedly setting off the quacking. Hut Ducky is quarterback on his High School football team. His bill is protected by his large blue helmet. The oversized football stuffed under his right wing cause him to waddle towards the right, but his waddle is super fast waddle and has helped him score many touchdowns. There is a hole in his helmet so that he can squirt water in the tub. He is a trooper and plays football through every season including the winter.

I could have spent a lot of money on rubber ducks in the Hong Kong airport. However, since we were there during our around the world trip, I would have had to buy an extra suitcase to bring them all home. There was a whole bathroom set of ducky towels and cups and toothbrush holders but I didn’t have that much room in my suitcase. There were also a few other sets of ducky decor items.

I couldn’t resist the Family of 5 Toothbrush Holder Duckies. The family I am referring to is the ducky family and not the number of toothbrushes that these duckies can hold. The holder is designed for 4 toothbrushes. There is a mommy ducky and her 4 babies. My favourite ducky is the one at the end with his eyes closed.

My mouth lights up blue. 

Don’t get me wrong here, because I do appreciate duplicate ducks (I pass them on to my friend who collects ducks), but I have 3 or 4 of these pens and I have received them all as gifts. I had one in my purse, one in the office and one to keep in good shape for the collection. These pens seem to be available everywhere and in many other animal shapes such as pigs and cows.

Quacking Pen Ducky quacks when you push on his head and the blue light in his mouth also lights up. The second ducky pen shown in the picture is from Zydeco gifts in Victoria and was only $1.00-$2.00. It also writes much better than the Quacking Pen Ducky. The vase in the photo is from a second hand store, so I am not sure where you can find one. Vases make great pen holders.

Today is lucky Friday the 13th and it was a gorgeous summer day. After a week of +30 it is officially patio and margarita season. P. King Ducky shares myi mother-in-law’s birthday which is October 17th. His bum symbol is rather disappointing because it’s not a symbol. It just says “MORE DUCKS!” and yes, it is in all capital letters too. I don’t like all caps. It looks like shouting.

P. King Ducky has a gold crown on his head and a white and royalty blue cloak that is trimmed with 24 tiny ducks embossed into the fur trim. His expression is a little bit hesitant because he has his poker face on.

Bend in Tune Ducky has soft puffy drumsticks on his bum. He was hatched on Aug 27. Go Go Ducky doesn’t know it, but Bend in Tune Ducky is in love with her. However, he is too shy to tell her. Perhaps if she reads these posts, she will find out his feelings.

Bend in Tune Ducky is dressed to impress in his band uniform. His hat has a puffy tassel on the top and his mom freshly pressed his jacket this morning. The silver clasps and embossing are a nice touch. He looks good in his uniform and who can resist a duck in uniform?

Get the heat.

Get the heat is a much more appropriate saying for this ducky given our awesome plus 30 weather in Edmonton. It gets to -30 every winter but there are usually few +30 days in the summer. To enjoy the great weather, we walked to and from Mill Creek Pool tonight. My daughter loved sitting on the edge of the pool while she filled and dumped bucket upon bucket of water over herself.

Go Go Ducky has awesome auburn curly pigtails. Her cheerleading skirt is so frilly that it sticks out around her bottom. She has a blue, white and orange pom pom on her bum and was hatched on Jan 23rd.

My eyes are getting droopy.

You may wonder how I could be so cruel as to squish this sad looking duck between the pages of a book. However Dougie is just doing his job because he is a bookmark. My friend bought me Dougie the Bookmark Ducky for my 30th birthday and I also received this book. The activities in this book range from licking a 9V battery to playing with fire. It’s a great book with great icons and legends (as a Tech Writer, I like conventions).

Dougie the bookmark has very sad sleepy eyes. He has a green checkered bow tie around his neck and his hands are in his pockets. He has orange webbed feet and a little wire in his bum so that he can sit down.

During our around the world trip in 2009, we had a layover at the Hong Kong airport (on our way to the Philippines). I found the cutest brand of rubber duck-B. Duck. They have adorable chubby rubber ducks and soft stuffed animal ducks too.

Bubbly Eyes Ducky is green and I also bought the pink one for my niece. His eyes are black ovals but he has two little white bubbles that are the pupils of his eyes. They look like bath bubbles and make him quite adorable. He is rounder than your average rubber duck and has a little knob of hair and a bright orange beak.

Hollow Rubba Ducky is solid (but her box says "see through it"). She glows in the dark and is quite the night owl. I think she will make a great night light in my bathroom next to my tiny glow in the dark ducks. She has a crescent moon on her bum and 3 stars. She is a summer baby and was hatched on July 22. Hollow Ducky is glow in the dark colour (a pale whitish yellow) with green eyes and a green beak.

Speaking of summer, we had a gorgeous weekend. Yesterday, we spent the day swimming at Ma-Me-o beach and today we went to a spray park. I love summer.

My first real job while I was still finishing my Professional Writing degree was as a Junior Technical Writer at a software company. I had a great manager who had a great sense of humour. He went to Disneyland for vacation with his family and brought back pins for everyone in the office (we had small team). He tried to buy pins that suited people’s personalities. I was 20 when I started the job so I was the youngest person in the office. Since I collect rubber ducks and everyone thought I was pretty naive and innocent, I received the “Good Girl” angel Daisy Ducky.

Who wouldn’t trust a doctor named Dr. Quack?

Dr. Quack was hatched on March 20, 2012. He shares one of my best friend’s birthdays. He has a picture of a doctor’s symbol on his bum. It took me a long time to figure out what this symbol was. I thought it was some kind of angel. I asked my husband and since he is the smartest man alive, he was correct at interpreting the symbol.

Dr. Quack has a headlamp around his head, a stethoscope around his neck and is dressed very nice. He has a blue dress shirt and red tie under his white coat. He looks like a very friendly doctor.

A patchwork quilt.

Pop Ducky’s box says “Give me my 15 minutes of fame.” The box also shows many different colours of ducks with many different coloured backgrounds. At first I thought this ducky was pop culture ducky, but then I did a bit of research because I was having trouble seeing the deeper meaning of this duck. Is he famous? Who said this line? I couldn’t dig anything up on this. Any ideas? Perhaps, he is just a cool colourful ducky.

Pop Ducky has yellow, mint, burgundy, mauve, blue and orange squares all over his body. He reminds me of a patchwork quilt. He was rather inexpensive for a Bud duck because he was one of the first Bud ducks that I bought (quite a few years ago). He comes in the old cardboard Bud box with the big plastic bubble at the front of the box. The boxes are now a lot smaller and made of plastic.

Fire Ducky has a base colour (spelled the Canadian way even on an American holiday) of black and has white eyes and a white beak. His wings are in the shape of fire and are orange, red and yellow.

In addition to racing cars, bike, quads and snowmobiles, this ducky is a bit of a pyromaniac. He always has a set of matches in his pocket and has set too many things on fire to count.

Barnyard life.

Clippy Ducky is not to be confused with Clippy from Microsoft Word. Remember him? I couldn’t resist picking up a 6 pack of these bag clips. While I was camping with my friend on the weekend (who also collects ducks), I noticed that she has the same bag clips.

Clippy Ducky looks like a typical rubber ducky except that he has a spring holding him together.

My husband found this ducky for me in a small town in BC. He was there on his annual motorcycle trip with his dad.The lady who owned the store hangs ducks on her Christmas tree every year and so do we. I know it’s odd to talk about an xmas ducky in the off season (and normally I would never approve), but many stores have Christmas in July sales. After all it is the 7th month so we are closer to the next Christmas than the last Christmas.

Snowman Ducky is all white but is wearing a navy blue striped toque and scarf. He also has 3 black buttons on his chest and black beady eyes. His beak is carrot orange.

Canada is a 145 years old today. Happy Birthday Canada! I usually watch the fireworks every year, but this year we are camping with friends for Canada Day. There will still be fireworks around the campsite. One year we went to Sylvan Lake for Canada Day and set off fireworks on the beach. My husband accidentally dropped a firework in the lake but it still went off and lit up the lake. It was pretty cool.

Edmonton Oilers Ducky isn’t the ducky that I planned on featuring for Canada day but I can’t find my other Canadian Hockey ducky anywhere and I searched through my 7 bins of ducks. I will find him for next Canada Day for sure. He must be hiding.

Edmonton Oilers Ducky is still in his original packaging. He has a dumb-struck look on his face and an extra wide beak (probably from too many pucks hitting his beak). His helmet is a little small but his jersey fits well and he has quite the curly tail.
