Duckskin Ducky

Name: Split the Uprights with DuckSkin
Interests: Playing quarterback and eating Kraft dinner.
Where to Find: Toys R Us (in Costa Mesa, California in 2003)
Brand: Assurance
Price: $2.98 US (amazing sale)

Hut!

I am in the process of cleaning out the basement (winter cleaning instead of Spring cleaning) and I was shredding a whole bunch of receipts when I came across a receipt for 20 Rubba Ducks that I bought. I got them on sale at a Toy R us in Costa Mesa, California (during a work business trip). I am sure I looked a bit suspicious as a 21 year old going through customs with a duffel bag full of rubber ducks (no the ducks were not filled with anything). It was a great deal and the most Rubba Ducks I ever bought at one time.

Anyway, Duckskin Ducky was one of the ducks in that set that I purchased. He was born on April 20 and has a gold football goal post on his tail. He is chocolate brown and his entire body is covered in bumpy football grip dots. He also has white football laces going up the front of him.

Poem on his tag:

“Get a grip, not one to fumble.

Prefers rubb’n around
at a good old game
in an outdoor stadium.

Hutt, Hutt! Touchdown
in every end-zone.

After all of the New Year’s
bowl games, it’s off to
Duckworld he goes.”

Enter my rubber ducky contest! There is only one week left to enter and I have only received two entrants so you have a really good chance of winning.

Bobby Rubba Ducky from Toys R Us

Name: Bobby a Peel Rubba Ducky
Interests: Keeping the peace on London’s streets.
Where to Find: Toys R Us
Brand: Rubba Duck
Price: $15.00

British Bobbies are Best.

Bobby was hatched on February 5th. He is wearing his navy matte uniform complete with button and pocket detailing. He has a tie on too, but really his hat is the best. It’s tall and has the royal crest on it. His hair is a little odd and rather cropped. His serious expression says that he is all business. The poem is also a bit odd for this duck, perhaps they were running out of ideas.

Poem on his tag:

“When in a pinch
U legg it quick -
our Boys in Blue
in hot pursuit.

Ducking and diving
is in the bin;
your collar’s felt -
let’s be having U.

Get Lucky Rubba Ducky from Toys R Us

Name: Get Lucky Rubba Ducky
Interests: I can rub your lottery tickets for you and I love hanging out in Bingo halls.
Where to Find: Toys R Us
Brand: Rubba Duck
Price: $7.50

Find a four leaf clover.

I like the poems that come with the Rubba Ducks. It would have been fun to write them all. Another reason why I enjoy the poems is because they often tell you the sex of the rubber ducky too.

If you have a dirty mind, Get Lucky ducky has a rather rude name. Get Lucky hatched on St. Patrick’s day of course. He is a golden green glowing yellow colour (must be all the luck). He has green eyes and a 4 leaf clover on his bum.

Poem on his tag:

“The duck model to all ducks.
So lucky he’s kind of green.

And believes everybody should get Lucky.

Wins over and over at all
Ducktona duck races.

Duckerball Rubba Ducky from Toys R Us

Name: Kick’n Duckerball Rubba Ducky
Interests: Playing soccer.
Where to Find: Toys R Us in the US (no longer available)
Brand: Rubba Duck
Price: $7.50 Cdn
I scored the most goals on my team this year.

Duckerball Ducky is a soccer ball. He was hatched on June 16 (just in time for outdoor soccer season). He has a sign on his bum that says “Kick me!” He is quite dirty and looks like he was kicked from shelf to shelf in Toys R Us. I got him on sale for half price.

Poem on his tag:

“Everyone needs goals -
mine’s the net.

I’m always using my head.

Look Mom, no hands!

OOPS! Sorry about the grass stains.”

Slim the Rubber Duck from Toys R Us

Name: Slim the Ducky
Interests: Taking swimming lessons with Alicia
Where to Find: Toys R Us
Brand: Boon
Price: $6.95

I love the pool at the YMCA.

Slim spent a lot of time floating with Alicia while I took an aquasize class. Slim the Rubber Ducky is all blue and is the skinniest of the Boon rubber ducks. He has green trees and flowers painted on him and white paint splotches. He has a white paint splotch on the top of his head. Another thing about Boon ducks that makes them different is the faint line that symmetrically divides their bodies in half.

Jane the Rubber Duck from Toys R Us

Name: Jane the Ducky
Interests: Talking to parrots
Where to Find: Toys R Us
Brand: Boon
Price: $6.95

 Hellloooo, Hello

When we were in B.C. in March, we visited the World Parrot Refuge near Comox. Parrots are really intimidating - especially when they stare at you, land on you and try to bite you. I flapped my arms like bird wings to prevent them from landing on me. However, Jane was comfortable with the parrots and enjoyed chatting with them.

Jane the Rubber Ducky is taller than Squish and skinnier than Bob. She is hot pink and has a green and white argyll type of print all over her body. She has the same black beady eyes that Bob and Squish have.

Squish the Rubber Duck from Toys R Us

Name: Squish the Ducky
Interests: Sitting on the palm of your hand, since I fit there so perfectly.
Where to Find: Toys R Us
Brand: Boon
Price: $6.95

Go ahead, flatten me.

Squish (this is the name he came with; I didn’t name him) is the second rubber duck that I received in the Boon line of rubber ducks. There are 4 in total and I am very excited to announce that a new line of Boon rubber ducks are coming out on May 01, 2012. My favourite Boon rubber duck, Bob, is going to be green this time around. Green just happens to be my favourite colour, so how perfect is that?

Squish looks like a regular rubber ducky who has in fact been squished with the palm of someone’s hand. He has black beady eyes, with white squiggly lines drawn around them and his entire body. He is pale yellow which is quite a bit paler than the average yellow rubber ducky colour.

Bob the Rubber Duck from Toys R Us

Name: Bob the Ducky
Interests: I love travelling with Alicia. I have even been to Panama.
Where to Find: Toys R Us
Brand: Boon

Price: $6.95

I have been everywhere including the Grey Nuns Hospital for Alicia’s birth

Bob Boon Odd Duck - Bob (this is the name he came with; I didn’t name him) is one of my favorite rubber ducks. My husband bought me Bob for Christmas in December 2010. He also bought me Squish. I received Jane and Slim at my daughter’s baby shower. Together they are the complete set of Boon ducks. I haven’t seen them at Toys R Us for a while but they are also sold at an expensive furniture store called Kids Furniture Gallery for $7.95 each.

Bob has been to B.C., Panama and to the hospital with us for the natural birth of my daughter (page 36). He has also been to many pools with us too. Bob floats nicely and unlike my older rubber ducks he is BPA, PVC and Phthalate free. Therefore, he is one of the few rubber ducks I own that is okay to put in the tub with my daughter and is okay for her to chew on too. My only complaint about Bob is that he is already getting worn out. His orange stripes are starting to wear off (but he has also been in the ocean and lakes which could be causing the wear). He has black little beady looking eyes and is the roundest of the Boon duck collection. He is not your typical rubber duck (none of the Boon ducks are) and I think that is why I like him so much. He is the odd duck out.
