Beaktick Ducky works for Avon and is a beak and wing model. She usually models jewelry and makeup but she has also modelled a few clothes too. She is wearing black mascara and is holding a tube of red beakstick but it goes on purple. It also changes colour like a mood ring and changes according to the temperature of her lips. Her sleek black hair nicely frames her face and she is wearing a red dress with a pearl necklace.

My daughter and I ran (I pushed her in the stroller) in the run for the cure today with some friends.

Dentist Duckies from Victoria

Dental Hygienist Ducky has a smiling tooth on her jacket. She cleans people's teeth. She has removed over a ton of plaque from her patients’ mouths. She also removes coffee and tea stains.

My dental office lets you pick a pack of gum and a mini chapstick and there is also a treasure chest of prizes for kids to pick from too.

Magic Trick Bunny Ducky would have been a really cool ducky if he was designed so that you could squish him into the black top hat and he could pop back out. He has pink bunny ears and there is a red stripe on his hat. He is part of a set but the other magic trick duckies weren't too exciting. There was at least 50 ducks at Zydeco Gifts that I didn't have, so I had to be selective.

Viking Ducky sneaks ashore from his grand ship the "Maiden Mist." He sniffs the salty air, twirls his orange braid and then slits his enemies' throats with his sword. Next, he stands on a barnacle ridden rock and delivers an inspirational speech to his crew.

Viking Ducky is wearing a metal suit of armour complete with a hat with animal horns. He has a long beard and lost his right eye during the only battle he has ever lost. Thankfully all he lost was his eye.

Teacher's pet. 

The Studious Student in the grey dress shirt wants to be a doctor when he grows up. He is wearing glasses to make him look smarter but he has 20/20 vision. He is holding a chalk board with his report card which says A+ of course. In college, my husband and I both wrote an essay for the same English teacher on Pride and Prejudice and we were being competitive in it and both received an A+. We should go back and read our essays again; it would be fun. I remember our teacher was telling us about the romance in the book and he was pretending not to be romantic so he said " I don't really know. My wife just tells me this stuff."

The ducky with the brown hair in the bun is a teacher and she works part-time in the library. She stereotypically meets the look of a sexy librarian with her glasses and her hair up in a bun. She is wearing a pink button down white collared blouse with a denim mini skirt. These ducks are similar to the Oriental Trading company brand of duckies but what makes them refreshingly different is that their eyes have pupils and the white part. The girls have eyelashes but the guys do not. They also have open beaks with their tongue showing and the Oriental Trading Company ducks have closed beaks with no tongue showing.

The Teacher's pet has brown hair and alert eyes that are ready to absorb as much information as possible and then some. She is wearing a purple shirt and a black skirt and is holding an apple for the teacher too.

Being a mystical creature is a huge responsibility. 

After two glorious weeks of vacation in BC (without a cloud in the sky), I am back at work and back in Edmonton. We are eventually going to live in BC near the ocean. On our last day of vacation, my mother-in-law's beach had the calmest and clearest water we have ever seen. I went kayaking 3 times including for a sunset sail with the sea lions.

While we were on vacation, we spent two days in Victoria. Of course I visited my favourite rubber ducky store-Zydeco gifts. They had just received a new shipment of duckies, so for the next two weeks you can view the latest additions to my collection. These ducks bring my count to 672. You'll have to wait until Halloween and Christmas to see a few of the seasonal ducks that I bought.

Rainbow Unicorn Ducky is all white with pink perky ears and a pink beak. Her horn is white and sticks out off the top of her forehead. Her mane has six colours in it-pale pink, grassy green, opus orange, yeasty yellow, baby blue and misty mauve. Her tail has the same colours except it is missing mauve.

Measuring Tape Ducky is a great entertaining toy for our 17 month old daughter on road trips and while waiting to see the dermatologist. It makes a clicking noise when you pull the measuring tape out and when you press the button on the bottom of the duck, the tape retracts back inside. Measuring Tape Ducky is smooth, plastic and shiny. She has a pointy orange beak and black droopy eyes.

I am not a huge fan of watching hockey games, but I have a few girlfriends who are really into hockey, so I don’t mind watching hockey with them. I am not a huge fan of all the fights that are allowed. I think this sets a bad example for kids. It’s hockey, not street fighting or boxing.

The Hockey Ducky in the black uniform has been in a few too many fights so he has a permanent gouge between his eyes. The Hockey Ducky in the navy blue jersey plays fair and doesn’t condone fighting (as a result his face is cleaner).

Cowboy Sheriff Ducky’s most distinct feature is his chipmunk cheeks. He looks like he is squirreling food away for winter. He has brown cowboy hat with red trim that matches the red bandana around his neck. He has eyebrows and eyelids but no eyelashes. He has a silver sheriff badge on his brown vest. His cheeks are rosie and so is his tail and his wings. Quite a few rubber ducks have this feature, but I think they overdid it on him because he looks sunburned. He has a pale pasty yellow beak too

Cowboy Sheriff Ducky is madly in love with Irish Cowgirl Ducky and they have been married for 7 years.

Surf’s up Faucet Cover Ducky from Walmart

Surf’s up Faucet Cover Ducky was a gift that my daughter received at her baby shower. We have the matching bath tub temperature taker ducky too (also a baby shower gift). This faucet cover stays on well and prevents my daughter from burning herself on the hot faucet.

Surf’s up Faucet Cover Ducky’s sun visor flips up to reveal her hollow brain. You can pour bubble bath in her brain and then the bubbles drip down into the water as the bath fills. However, they also drip onto your faucet a bit too.

Breathe in, Breathe out.

I always thought it would be fun to be part of “doctors without borders.” I have travelled and volunteered a few times. Once in the Philippines and once on the way to Disneyland as part of a youth group trip. I want to travel with our kids and do volunteer trips. It’s nice to help people and learn about new cultures.

The Ducktor on the left is used to working in the dark, so that is why he is holding a flashlight in one hand and his stethoscope in the other. The duck on the right has quite the stick out wings and is wearing his stethoscope around his neck. Both ducks have the funny old-fashioned mirror headbands.

You light up my life.

I was in Bath and Body Works in Southgate mall last week and they have a small pink light up ducky in their typical style. Surprisingly, I didn’t purchase it because I thought it was too similar to this ducky.

Light Up Ducky has two sensors on the bottom of her. When you rub your fingers over her sensors, she flashes pink, purple and white. She also lights up if you smash her against a hard surface. My daugher loves to play with this ducky and I am impressed that she hasn’t run out of juice yet. Once she does, she will no longer be a light up ducky because she is glued together and it would probably destroy her if we had to change the batteries.

Perhaps the coolest thing about Space Ducky is that his helmet is removable. His space suit is all orange and has an American flag on it as well as a crazy Space symbol. He is all white and has a yellow beak. I have never really had an interest to go into outer space and I am not a fan of space movies or alien movies. However, this duck is pretty cool.

Oh, speaking of cool. I watch the TV show Breaking Bad”” and there is a police rubber ducky on Hank’s desk (he is a DEA officer). I must say kudos to the set designers.

Cheese Rubba Ducky

You’ll never meet a cheesier duck.

When I was in Paris, I ate cheese from Normandy and it was amazing. I have never eaten so much cheese and wine in my life (not even when we were hosting wine and cheese parties. Since we were walking at least 5-10 km a day, I managed not to gain any weight either.

Cheese Rubba Ducky was hatched on February 17. She has the most teeth I have ever seen on a rubber duck. Her smile is a little scary. She is part aged white cheddar and part medium cheddar and has a camera on her bum.

The line in her poem about ham and cheese reminds me of my first trip to Cuba. The snack bar only served ham and cheese sandwiches. After a night of drinking mojitos with 7 year Havana rum, ham and cheese sandwiches tasted really good.

You’ll just feel a tiny poke.

Nurse Rubba Ducky has a bandage on her bum. She is a summer baby and was hatched on July 10. She has been a registered nurse for 10 years. She has the most beautiful shade of emerald green eyes (rare for a rubber duck since most have black or blue eyes). She has a brown hair styled in a flipped out bob and she has a cross on her uniform and antiquated 50s style of nursing hat.

I think that being a nurse would be a tough job, but I had great nurses when I was in the hospital to have my daughter. I do not like being in a hospital, but I am sure that not many people do. I have been to the emergency department in a hospital and the filthy conditions of the floors scared me. I still believe that it’s safer and less germy to have a home birth (provided you don’t have any complications and are not having a high risk pregnancy).

Cold Rubba Ducky from Edmonton

If you’re like me, you hate to admit it, but now that it is September, it is technically fall. Therefore, I am going to feature a wintery rubba duck today. Cold Rubba Ducky was one of the first Rubba Ducks that I purchased. He is snow white and his skin is opalescent like a snowflake. He is wearing a blue satin top hat and bow tie. His beak is blue from the cold and so are his eyes.

He reminds me of snowboarding in -30 in Fernie. It was so cold that my hair was frozen and my eyelashes had icicles on them. His bum has a sketch of a thermometer on it that reads well below zero. He was born on March 11 which is a bit odd give his cold nature, but let’s face it there is always still snow in Edmonton on March 11.

I chipped a nail.

Pedi-mani Ducky loves doing French manicures and unlike most spas she doesn't charge extra for doing French manicures. I buy the little cheat stickers for doing French manicures because I can't paint that straight.

Pedi-mani Ducky has her towel tied like a head scarf and she has neat swirly designs in her robe. I have a towel for drying my hair that is made of microfiber and it buttons at the back. It does decrease the drying time for my hair.

Pedi-mani Ducky has super droopy eyes and she looks like she is about to fall asleep. My husband's aunt gave me this ducky. All of my family and friends buy me ducks when they see one that is different (if it is an average looking duck, then I likely already have it).

Squeaky Clean

Pedestal bathtubs remind me of the movie Sleeping with the Enemy which we watched at my grade 6 sleepover party. They also remind me of rich people since they are making a comeback in show homes.

A rejuvenating soak.

Mud Mask Ducky works fulltime as a criminal lawyer, so he appreciates his spa days. He is also a fan of body wraps. I have never gone for a body wrap treatment or a mud mask. My spa treatments usually involve massage or pedicures. Although, I did get a facial once. It would be fun to squeeze blackheads out of pores as your full-time job.

Sunday Morning Ducky sleeps naked but he does wear his baby blue robe around the house. He has the newspaper tucked under his arm and is about to walk back to his lazy chair. Since I am on vacation for the next two weeks, (swimming in the ocean in glorious BC), I thought a week of spa ducks would be an appropriate theme. Massage Therapist Ducky has been a certified massage therapist for 8 years. She works for a spa but will also come to your house. She specializes in hot stone, deep tissue and thai massages.

Massage Therapist just came out of the shower so she has her hair up in a white turban towel. She is wearing her white fleecy house coat and her white fleecy slippers too. Her eyebrows and eyelashes give her a seductive quality. Her up turned smiling beak adds to her seductive look.

Teeny Weeny Keychain Ducky

I am a little bigger than the mini devil ducks.

Teeny Weeny Keychain Ducky is one of the smallest rubber duckies that I own. However, I have a tiny blown glass ducky that is even smaller (from Venice). It is the smallest ducky that I own. My cat likes to attach Teeny Weeny Keychain Ducky and throw it up in the air like a mouse.

Teeny Weeny Keychain Ducky is 3 cm tall if you count his little hole that sticks up for the keychain to go through. He is a little chubby and his wings stick out from his body.

My sister-in-law bought me Radio Ducky as a gift. He is great in the bath and the bathroom in general (since he is waterproof). It’s nice to listen to the news or my favourite dance/rock station while I get ready for work or a party.

Radio Ducky takes 3 AAA batteries and they last for quite a while. He has a guilty look on his face as in ÿes, I did watch you get in and out of the shower. He over plucked his eyebrows so they barely exist. You turn him on and off by twisting his head (this twisting also controls the volume). His tail turns for the station and his wing hosts the AM and FM buttons. Sometimes he is tricky to tune, so, once you find your station don’t touch his tail.

Plain or keychain?

I know these two rubber ducks are technically considered doubles, but are they really? One has a key ring through his head and one does not. I am not sure if I considered these rubber ducks two unique rubber ducks in my collection count or not. What do you think collectors? I think I got these two rubber ducks on different occasions and didn’t realize they were doubles.

Keychain rubber ducks are quite popular. I probably have at least two dozen keychain rubber ducks. Bud offers a large number of their ducks as keychain rubber ducks too. I have used a few of my keychain rubber ducks as keychains but they eventually wear out and I only have so many keys.

Glow in the Dark Devil Ducky is a whitish creamy glow in the dark colour. He has the typical sideways teardrop rubber duck eyes with pointy eyebrows. He has red devil ears, a red pointy devil tail and a yellow beak. I think a red beak would have suited him better.

Rice Paddies rock.

I have alway wanted to go and see rice paddy fields up on a mountain. I think it’s so amazing how the terraces are carved around the mountain in a beautiful work of art. I think on our next round the world trip in 2019 we will make it a priority to see rice terraces.

Straight, curly or krimped?

Since it is labour day, I decided I should feature two labour intensive ducks (and one of them is pregnant too). These salon stylists are both a bit emo and prefer to wear black smocks. The male stylist loves blow drying and washing hair. He gives each client a scalp massage when he puts in conditioner. He prefers to give people bangs and short hair-dos.

The red headed female stylist is holding up a mirror so her client can admire the beautiful up-do she has just created. She has her hair krimped. I still own my krimper and my waver irons. My husband was just saying that he hasn’t seen anyone with krimped hair for a while. I haven’t gotten rid of them because krimped hair and braids are two hairstyles that never seem to go out of style. I can’t wait to krimp my daugher’s hair.

Elephants Never Forget was my favourite store in the 124 street area (besides the Acquired Taste Tea Company which has the best tea). They are no longer in business, but they had a great selection of toys. I visited the store every few months and often found new ducks that I didn’t have.

There are 3 Sparkly Jelly Duckies in the set. The largest ducky in the set is yellow and has an orange beak and pink tongue. The pink baby girl ducky has a yellow beak and a pink tongue. The blue baby boy ducky has a purple beak and a mauve tongue.The pupils of their eyes look like pac man. Each of the ducks are see through and are covered in tiny silver sparkles. They are lightweight and ideal for the bath since they can’t get water inside them. I know squirty ducks are more fun but I worry about the soapy water rotting inside the ducks.

Is there sand in my crack?

There are two blog posts for today because I didn’t get a chance to do one yesterday. We are busy getting ready for vacation and enjoying a long weekend of mostly staying home and catching up on life. Last night, we went to a surprise 35th Anniversary Party for our friends’ parents. It was really fun. They played a game where they had to answer questions by lifting his or her shoe up depending on if the answer was the wife or the husband. They did pretty good.

Sailor Sunglasses Ducky has been to Borcay and so have I. It is a beautiful island in the Philippines and when we visited the resort that we stayed at had a huge sandcastle in front of it.

Sailor Sunglasses Ducky is a basic rubber ducky with a bit or orange shading on his wings and his tail. He is wearing blue sunglasses and a white sailor hat. It would probably be challenging to do, but it would be cool if there was a rubber ducky with transitional sunglasses that were slightly darker lenses but you could still see his eyes.
